Kannepoti Jyotsana, a 14-year old archer from Volga ArcheryAcademy has been nominated for the ‘National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement- 2015’. The award will be presented to this child prodigy by the President Pranab Mukharjee at Rastrapathi Bhavan during the Children’s Day celebrations on November 14. The Volga ArcheryAcademy, which has produced several luminaries and already has compound archers achieved who have two prestigious medals 2010 Commonwealth Games (silver) and 2014 Incheon Asian Games (bronze).

The laurel, which Jyotsana is set to bag, will be another feather in the cap for the academy. Speaking to The Hans India, Volga Archery Academy secretary, Cherukuri Satyanarayana, said that the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Department has nominated Jyotsana in recognition of her abilities and outstanding achievement in the field of archery. Jyotsana is one of the best talents from the academy who is expected to make a huge impact in the days to come in the field of compound bow category.

Though she is a native of Eluru, she moved to Vijayawada after her father's death. “We have adopted the young archer in memory of the international archer and coach Cherukuri Lenin. She was given training at the academy for the past one decade,” Satyanarayan said. At present, she is studying in Class 9 at Viswabharathi School, Patamata. She had also won several medals in the State and National level tournaments at a young age,” he added.

Listing out her achievements, Satyanaryana said that 14-year-old archer bagged silvers in team events at sub-junior National Archery Championshiop-2014, Junior National Archery Championship 2013, 36th Sub-Junior National Archery Championship-2015; bronze in team event at 35 National Games Kerala 2015. “As of now my target is to achieve gold medals at Common Wealth Games-2016 and Asian Games-2018,” Jyotsana signed off.
