Chittoor Mayor, hubby shot dead

Chittoor: Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha, who was shot dead in her office on Tuesday afternoon in the Chittoor Municipal Corporation complex died while her husband Katari Mohan sustained severe injuries, when three armed assailants barged into her chamber and started shooting and stabbing.

Mohan died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. “We feel that she became an unintended target as the assailants probably wanted to attack her husband Mohan and she tried to shield him,” an official said. Two of the assailants later surrendered at the Chittoor One Town Police Station.

Anuradha received two bullets at very close range, one in her left eye and another on the forehead. Her heroic act gave Mohan enough time to duck behind chairs and a table although the assailants shot him and stabbed several times. He was shifted to a hospital where he died undergoing treatment.
