Pulla Rao along with the other two members of the three member Ministers’ committee set up by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to inspect and assess the damages in the two rain-affected districts, including Deputy Chief Minister Chinna Rajappa and Forest and Environment Minister B Gopalakrishna Reddy held an official meeting to review the flood damages, relief and rehabilitation measures in the affected areas here on Wednesday.
Addressing the media, Pulla Rao said that the assessment of crop damage is likely to go up after the final estimation of the total loss caused by the rain to the crops in the two districts.
The Minister said that the CM is writing to the Centre for the procurement of the wet food grains including paddy to provide succour to the rain-affected farmers and added that input subsidy will be provided to the farmers to take up Rabi crop. He said that the officials were directed to take immediate steps to repair and restore breached tanks and canals, on a war-footing.
Forest and Environment Minister B Gopalakrishna Reddy said in all 6 deaths were reported in Chittoor district and compensation of Rs five lakh each to the families of bereaved would be provided. He said 151 houses were damaged and 40 tanks were breached in Chittoor district due to heavy rains. As part of relief measures 25 kgs of rice, 2 litre kerosene, one kg of sugar, wheat and palm oil would be provided to each family in the affected areas. Reddy said that because of the precautionary measures taken up the administration, the human loss was minimised in the district.
Deputy Chief Minister Chinna Rajappa said that about 5,000 people were rehabilitated in 37 centres. Two teams of NDRF were requisitioned to help the district administration in the relief measure in the worst-affected eastern part of the district, beside two helicopters from Chennai were hired for evacuation of people to safe areas and also distribution of relief materials. Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu after an aerial survey held a meeting with the district officials on the flood damage and also on the ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures in Chittoor district, at Renigunta airport, on Wednesday before his departure to Chittoor to participate in the funeral of the slained Chittoor Mayor K Anuradha and her husband K Mohan.
