Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday appealed to the Centre to extend immediate relief of Rs 1000 crore to undertake relief operations in the state. The Chief Minister, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh, said the initial assessment had put the loss at Rs 3,000 crore.

The Chief Minister said the cyclone had caused heavy loss to the state, particularly Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor districts. Standing crops on thousands of acres were damaged and infrastructure like roads, electricity and water systems were damaged, he said in the letter.

The Chief Minister also said that standing crops in East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts were also damaged. In all, 146 villages were hit by the cyclone in the last four days, he said, adding that 467 houses were totally damaged and 2029 houses were partially damaged.
