Rampachodavaram (East Godavari): Eco tourism is gaining ground in Manyaseema in the East Godavari district with sizable number of tourists throughout the year in general and during Kartika Masam in particular evincing interest to visit the agency area.

A number of groups are camping in the areas like Rampachodavaram, Maredumilli, Addateegala and other areas in the east agency in the name of ‘Vanabhojanam’ during Kartika Masam. The Forest department has been organising eco tourism in Maredumilli for the last several years.

Picnic spots like Jungle Star, Jala Tarangini, Vanavihari and Pamuleru Rivulet developed by the Forest department there have been attracting tourists from all over the country. The ancient Siva temple at Rampa village in Rampachodavaram mandal is an added attraction.

Likewise, Pinjarikonda waterfall is also catching the attention of nature lovers. There has been a steady increase in the number of weekend tourists to the agency area prompting the Forest department to arrange guest houses for them. Moreover,

the local people are also converting their houses into private guest houses to allow them to stay overnight. This is mutually beneficial as the local people are also earning some additional income.

People who are fed up with the pollution in the cities are evincing interest to spend at least some quality time in the pristine natural locations and waterfalls in the forest area.

Particularly since this is winter season, people also enjoy the fog set in the deep forest in the early hours of the day.

The chicken curry specially cooked in bamboo, called Bongu Chicken, satisfies the palate of the food connoisseur. No wonder the tourists enquire about that non-vegetarian delicacy during the tour.

The tourists also evince interest to buy varieties of fruits and vegetables cultivated by tribals without using fertiliser or pesticide (organic produce).

It is high time the government evinced interest to promote tourism by developing some more areas in the agency area which would provide employment to the local tribals at the same time entertaining the city people.
