Hyderabad: The South Central Railway authorities clarified that there are 134 railway-affected tanks in Nellore district. They informed that some of these tanks were identified for minor repairs during joint inspection held earlier this year by a team of officials from SCR and AP Irrigation department.

Reacting to a report published in The Hans India on November 18, SCR Chief Public Relations Officer K Uma Shankar Kumar said that heavy rains, which affected rail operations in the State, brought the issue of maintenance of water tanks to the fore. The CPRO said that maintenance of these tanks is the responsibility of the Irrigation department.

Stating that the AP government is extending its complete cooperation, Uma Shankar Kumar said that only a few tanks are close to the tracks. “It is the responsibility of the State government to strengthen, repair, maintain and undertake operation of these railway-affecting tanks. There is clear coordination between the Railways and State government,” he affirmed.
