Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday appealed to the Chinese government to design the proposed Silk Route via Visakhapatnam. Naidu held discussion with the Chinese team of officials which was led by its International Department's Deputy Minister Chen Fengxiang.
The Silk Route is an attempt to promote economic cooperation and connectivity by reviving the ancient maritime Silk Road trading route. To this end, China has pledged US$40 billion in the Silk Road Fund to develop infrastructure along the route.
The main aim of China’s ‘One Belt-One Road’ initiative is to develop its landlocked western provinces and enable them to access the markets of Southeast Asia and the Middle East, thus shaping China’s regional periphery by exercising economic, cultural and political influence.
Naidu told the Chinese delegation that Andhra Pradesh lies between Kolkata and Chennai ports and could be developed as a logistic hub for South East Asia. The Silk Road initiative was first announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013.
It contemplates vast an investment in highways, ports and railways that it will transform the ancient Silk Road into a ribbon of gold for the surrounding countries. Officially called “The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road,” the project also has the shorter title, “One Belt, One Road”.
This road is open to any country that accepts Chinese investment in its infrastructure. Any country that participates in these colossal infrastructure undertakings will enjoy unprecedented Chinese investment. And the official pronouncements from China emphasise the positive connotations of the Silk Road.
The Chief Minister also explained to the delegation about the importance of Amaravati and asked them to consider it as a second home after Shanghai. He told them that Amaravati would be one of the top five cities in the world and would be developed as a blue and green city.
He also explained to them the importance of Amaravathi asked the Chinese team to consider it as a second home after Shanghai, it said.
