Tirupati: Leaders of the Jai Samaikyandhra Party (JSP) and CPM criticised the State government for scraping the ‘Chittoor Drinking Water Scheme’ and termed it as an injustice to the district.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, the JSP state spokesperson P Naveen Kumar Reddy came down heavily on the TDP government for issuing GO on Friday for cancelation of the scheme. Reddy said that even though the scheme was much beneficial to people but Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu cancelled it with political vendetta. He said that the scheme which was taken up by the previous Congress government was the only viable and dependable water scheme aimed at covering the villages and towns in most of the Assembly constituencies in the water-stressed district.

He said that there is no justification in the cancelling of the scheme. He slammed the TDP government for cancelling the scheme unmindful of the difficulties it would cause to the people in the district. Despite there is no financial burden as the HUDCO agreed to fund the scheme, the AP government cancelled it on the pretext of delay on the part of contractors in taking up the works which is not true, he said alleging that it was the TDP government which was putting spokes in the scheme.

The cancellation of the water scheme once again proved the injustice being meted out to the district after Chandrababu came to power, said CPM district secretary K Kumar Reddy in a press release here on Saturday. The leaders said that people would revolt if the TDP government continues to do injustice to the district.
