  • 4-day Global Youth Meet-2015 commences

The Union Minister was addressing a large gathering of national and international delegates attending the four-day Global Youth Meet-2015 which began here on Sunday. A Delhi-based non-governmental organisation Health Related Information Dissemination Amongst Youth (HRIDAY) is conducting the meet in association with Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and Visakha HRIDAY-SHAN (Student Health Action Network).

Venkaiah Naidu called upon the youth not to indulge in anti-social activities or habituated to vices like drugs, alcohol, tobacco and also not to fall prey to dreaded diseases like AIDS-HIV. He advised the youngsters to take nutritious food instead of fast foods and cautioned them to be alert about the present ills like terrorism, violence, atrocities against women and children which are plaguing the society and behave like responsible citizens.

Claiming that the Centre was concentrating more on the development of youth, he said it was spending thousands of crores on education, health and skill development. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is all set to emerge as manufacture hub, Skill India and Digital India, he added.

State Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said that India has the highest population of youth in the world and the State government was ensuring nutritious food to children through aganwadi centres. On regular health check-ups for schoolchildren, he said unlike in the past, the medical teams were going to schools to conduct check-ups. Local MP K Haribabu said both the Centre and the the State were spending a lot on education, skill development, medical and health services.

President of Public Health Foundation of India K Srinath Reddy said to inculcate healthy habits among youth , global youth meets were being held all over the country and they were held in New Delhi and Mumbai earlier. He said delegates from about 33 countries were attending to the meet along with the delegates from all over the country.
