Tirupati: Many women from various localities in the city protested against the cable operators resorting to pressure tactics to force the people to buy set top boxes for the TV sets.

The cable operators often stopping the leading entertainment and news channels as part of their vigorous campaign to promote the sale of set up boxes each costing Rs 1,500, causing much inconvenience to the people, the local residents alleged.

They said that the cable operators, unmindful of the recent floods affecting the people in many localities going on disconnecting leading channels , under the pretext of Central government stipulation making digital telecasting of channels mandatory.

They contend that many poor, who are unable to pay Rs 1500 for the set up box, were feeling the pinch and wanted the cable operators to stop their pressure tactics of stopping telecast of leading channels.
