Srikakulam: The officials of Arasavalli temple in Srikakulam are striving to get exemption from income tax under section 80 (G) for donations. The temple and endowment officials are preparing revenue and expenditure reports, along with audit details, to submit to the income tax department. “Till now, there is no exemption for donors, while devotees, too, are asking us about exemption with an aim to donate valuables”, said temple executive officer Saluru Venkateswara Rao.

“We have already submitted application to the income tax department for consideration of exemption under section 80 (G) of IT Act basing their suggestion we are preparing revenue, expenditure reports, along with regular audit details”, the executive officer said.

Every year Arasavalli temple’s revenue has been increasing through darshan, prasadam tickets and donations. In 2009-10, the temple earned around Rs 1.87 crore, while during 2014-15, the revenue has been increased to Rs 4.21 crore, according to temple executive officer.

If IT exemption was granted to the temple more devotees would come forward to donate valuables and cash which would be useful for the temple development and also to provide facilities to devotees, said temple priest Ippili Shankara Sharma.
