Visakhapatnam: Kolkota- bound passengers agitated at the local airport for being stranded here for more than 18 hours. A special flight belonging to SpiceJet carrying 186 passengers arrived at the Vizag airport on Friday night.

Airport director Vinod Sharma told The Hans India that the Mumbai- Kolkota SpiceJet flight that took off in Mumbai on Friday evening at about 8 pm was diverted to Visakhapatnam due to bad weather in Kolkota. The flight was landed in Visakhapatnam at 11.30 pm.

All the passengers were shifted to a star hotel in the city and were informed that a special flight from Calicut would arrive here and take them off to Kolkota at 11.30 am on Saturday. But the flight could not take off from Calicut as a NOTAM was issued to the aircraft pilots due to the airport carpenting work was going on. The passengers were asked to wait for some more time as the SpiceJet officials were making alternative arrangements. The uncertainty irritated the passengers who have been waiting for over 18 hours.

“I personnally intervened in the issue and spoke to the higher authorities of SpiceJet and made food arrangements for the passengers”, Sharma said. Finally, the SpiceJet flight arrived at 6.30 pm and left for Kolkota an hour later, the director said.
