Splendour marked the ‘Swarna Rathotsavam’ when the deities of Lord Malayappa Swamy along with His two consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi were taken on the glittering golden chariot on the four ‘Mada’ streets encircling Lord Venkateswara temple here on Monday on the occasion of Vaikunta Ekadasi.
Splendour marked the ‘Swarna Rathotsavam’ when the deities of Lord Malayappa Swamy along with His two consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi were taken on the glittering golden chariot on the four ‘Mada’ streets encircling Lord Venkateswara temple here on Monday on the occasion of Vaikunta Ekadasi.
Thousands of devotees took part in ‘Swarna Rathotsavam’. The TTD management had taken all steps to ensure the smooth run of the chariot on the streets. According to scriptures, offering prayers to Lord Vishnu (in any of His forms) on ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi' is believed to rid a person of the ordeal of rebirth and grant liberation to the soul.
It is also believed that those who will have darshan of the Lord in the sanctum sanctorum as well on the chariot will get the merit of having witnessed three crore Ekadasis and hence it is also called Mukkoti Ekadasi. Supreme Court Judge Justice N V Ramana, TTD Chairman Dr Ch Krishnamurthy, EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao, JEO K S Sreenivasa Raju and a large number of devotees took part.
