Visakhapatnam: Private money lender Gudivada Ramakrishna, who was accused of sexually harassing woman borrowers, was arrested by the city police on Thursday. Cases were booked under sections 420, 384, 509, 506, 354 (A) of IPC and the police expect that more victims will come forward to complain against Ramakrishna. He has been on the run ever since the women lodged a complaint against him at Arilova police station.

Detailing the case, DCP (Law and Order, Zone-I) Dr C M Trivikrama Varma said that the modus operandi of the accused is to offer loans to needy at high interest after obtaining promissory notes and blank cheques. “Later, he seeks sexual favours from the woman borrowers, if they fail to pay installments on time,” he added.

Police raided his house at Peda Waltair and seized 37 blank cheques, 39 promissory notes, LIC Bonds of the borrowers, four knifes, one SUV and one motorcycle. The case came to light on December 15 following a complaint from a woman borrower from Adarshanagar, who along with her friend borrowed Rs 50,000. Ramakrishna has obtained promissory notes and blank cheques from the two women apart from the gold ornaments.

One of the borrowers wanted to retrieve her gold by paying Rs 4 lakh in cash, Ramakrishna returned half and demanded an additional Rs 4.5 lakh in cash to return the remaining gold ornaments. When the woman expressed her inability to repay, Ramakrishna sought sexual favours from the woman and her friend. Similarly, Ramakrishna has sought sexual favour from one more woman from Narasimhanagar after she failed to repay the interest.
