Rajahmundry: Endowments Minister P Manikyala Rao and BJP MLC Somu Veerraju appealed to youth to emulate former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to succeed in their lives.

They gave away prizes to the winners of the Atalji Cricket Tournament conducted here on the occasion of former Prime Minister’s birthday on December 25.

Speaking on the occasion, Manikyala Rao said that Vajpayee had transformed the country by linking rivers, connecting national highways all over the country. Along with stabilising the Indian economy through a slew of reforms, Mr. Vajpayee strove to maintain cordial relationship with neighbouring nations, he added.

The Minister pointed out that the former Prime Minister is known for his sincerity, commitment and great oratory skills. He recalled that Vajpayee had shown the world the might of India by successfully conducting nuclear test.

MLC Somu Veerraju said that Mr. Atalji was instrumental in eliminating poverty, illiteracy and unemployment in the country. He said the former Prime Minister would be remembered for his schemes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and enhancing the scale of financing for the poor from banks and for introducing schemes for the welfare of women.

Later, Manikyala Rao handed over prize money of Rs 15, 000 and trophy to winners V.T. College team and Rs 10, 000 and trophy to Samhitha College team members. BJP Corporator R Sridevi, Bommala Dattu, Adabala Ramakrishna and others participated.
