Chittoor: District Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivas said that crime rate has come down drastically in the district during the year 2015 when compared with previous year. He said that district police have shown extraordinary performance in bringing down the red sanders smuggling in the district. He lauded the police officials concerned for cracking the sensational Mayor couple murder case and arresting Chintu and 20 other accused.

Addressing the press conference at the Police Guest House here on Tuesday, the SP has enlisted the achievements of the police during this year in reducing the crime rate and curbing the red sanders smuggling activities. Srinivas stated that police have arrested 936 red sanders smugglers and recovered 2,783 red sanders logs weighing 56,654 kilos besides 157 vehicles worth Rs 16.62 crore. Under the Preventive Detention Act, the police have arrested 50 red sanders smugglers, he said. Two Chinese nationals, who were involved in red sanders smuggling were also nabbed. “Steps have been initiated to recover the properties of the red sanders smugglers through the Enforcement Directorate,” he added.

The SP further said that DGP JV Ramudu had released red sanders accused information software in order to dispose the cases of red sanders smugglers quickly. “In order to create awareness about the red sanders smuggling among the public, kalajatha programmes have been organised in a big way covering all the red sanders smuggling-prone mandals in the district,” the SP added.

Referring about the traffic menace in the district, the SP said that traffic centres have been set up at Kuppam, Madanapalle, Piler, Puttur, Nagari and Pakala towns to regulate traffic. He said several multi-functional mobile teams were introduced in the district during the year for ensuring effective highway patrolling. Srinivas said that 1.44 lakh cases have been registered by the police and collected Rs 3.04 crore as penalty. “The district has achieved the first place in the implementation of the Central government sponsored Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) in which 2.49 lakh police records were uploaded. “It is definitely a big achievement on the part of the police performance in the district,” he added. Additional SP Annapurna Reddy, Chittoor DSP Lakshmi Naidu, SB DSP Ram Kumar, DSP (Task Force) Giridhar, DSP (Administration) Sudhakar Reddy and others were present.
