Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Sub-Collector, Dr G Sujana on Tuesday conducted magisterial probe into the liquor tragedy that took five lives and made 29 others sick in the first week of December. The Sub-Collector recorded the statements of the victims and their family members at her office here.

Besides the victims and their family members, five doctors and one Excise Superintendent also attended at the inquiry and gave their statements on the incident. While the Excise Superintendent presented the investigation report on the liquor consumed by the victims at the Swarna Bar in Krishnalanka on the fateful day, the doctors who treated the victims presented the medical records before the Sub-Collector.
Meanwhile, the victims lodged a complaint with the Sub-Collector that they were not given the better treatment till date. Mother and daughter, Vijayalakshmi and Aparna, who attended the inquiry, alleged that the victim was not given due medical care. Vijayalakshmi said her husband, Venkata Rao, fell sick and was admitted into a private hospital.
After 10 days, he was discharged and was sent to another private hospital. She said here too, the hospital management refused to give free treatment forcing them to borrow and pay the expenses. They requested the Sub-Collector to help them. “Our family is in debts now and the breadwinner is battling for life in the private hospital. We have nothing to pay for the treatment. The government had promised so much on that day.
But today, nothing had come to us,” The victim’s wife and daughter broke down while narrating their tale of woes to the Sub-Collector. Later, the Sub-Collector said that one more round of enquiry would be held at a later date. She said that the bar management and other accused were in the jails and could not attend the enquiry. She said that she would also question the bar management and workers to complete the probe.
