Visakhapatnam: The general body meeting of National Federation of Indian Women will be held here from January 20 for three days. Around 1,000 delegates from across the country and from 13 foreign countries are participating in the event. Addressing a press conference on the convention at the CPI office on Thursday, AP unit general secretary Penmatsa Durga Bhavani said that the meeting would discuss important issues related to women, which include globalisation, violence against women, women empowerment, education, food security and communalism and pass resolutions for taking up future course of action.

She said that the federation played an important role in getting the employment guarantee schemes, which have been benefitting the Dalits, minorities and other lower sections of the society.

She said that the meeting would demand the Central government to strengthen the laws and strictly implement them in order to prevent violence against the women. She, along with local leaders, released the poster for the national meet.
