Signature campaign for setting up of HC in Tirupati
Former Congress MP Chintha Mohan reiterated his demand for setting up of Anhdra Pradesh High Court in Tirupati. Mohan, along with the party activists and his supporters, took up a day long signature campaign covering 10 localities mostly slums in the town on Sunday in support of his demand for establishing the High Court in the pilgrim town.
Tirupati: Former Congress MP Chintha Mohan reiterated his demand for setting up of Anhdra Pradesh High Court in Tirupati. Mohan, along with the party activists and his supporters, took up a day long signature campaign covering 10 localities mostly slums in the town on Sunday in support of his demand for establishing the High Court in the pilgrim town.
Addressing a gathering during the campaign, the Congress leader said that the people of the State are at loss with the joint High Court functioning now in Hyderabad (for the two States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana).
The Telangana government is getting revenue of about Rs 100 crore every year as court fee from the people of the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh, besides they are taking the trouble of going all the way to Hyderabad for the cases, he explained, while urging the State government to take steps for setting up of the High Court in Tirupati.
In this connection, he pointed out that in many States, the capital and the High Court were located in two different places to drive home his point of setting up of the high court in Tirupati is not against rule. He cited the cases of Uttranchal, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh where the capital and High Court were in different places.
“Tirupati is having the potential to house the High Court. It is having all the facilities, including road, rail and air connectivity (international air port), six universities, more than hundred colleges and 5,000 practising lawyers”, he said claiming that all sections, including the political parties will also support it.
