Vijayawada: The CPI city secretary, Donepudi Shankar, has demanded the Telugu Desam Government release the video tapes of accused in the call money sex scandal. Addressing the media here on Monday, Shankar came down heavily on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for not initiating stern action against the accused in call money scandal, even after completion of 20 days. He wondered why the Chief Minister was not conducting judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge, though many angles saw the light. Victims not only lost their hard earned money, but also their dignity, character and reputation in society, he said.

At least now the CM should stop supporting his party men who were allegedly involved in the scam, he said. Shankar also took a dig at Chief Minister for transforming Vijayawada into a centre for financial scams and illicit liquor trade. Development was lagging behind on all fronts in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). City Mayor Koneru Sreedhar had failed to prevail upon the CM in getting funds for the city development. There were no signs from the State Government in releasing the Rs 460 crore funds sanctioned by the Centre towards the development of storm water drains in the city, he alleged.

The CPI leader threatened that a series of agitations would be taken against the State Government if it failed to complete the storm water drain works by March 31. The CPI city assistant secretary, G Koteswara Rao, and city leader Palla Surya Rao were also present at the news conference.
