Ongole: A patent was filed by Dr TV Prasad, dean of Research & Planning at Chirala Engineering College, in the area of computer science & engineering titled “Architecture and Design of a Novel Tool for Intelligent General Purpose Question Answering System”.

This patent is fifth of its kind Dr Prasad possesses and second in the series of knowledge engineering. Knowledge is represented in computers in two ways: Structured form and unstructured form. This research has given a new dimension to knowledge engineering for representing unstructured form. The work can be implemented in various domains of day-to-day life be it law and order, justice, forensic etc. It provides a robust platform for computer to think more naturally. With this patenting technology, a user can enter a short story into the software and then ask questions. The software computes and provides answers in natural form. It gives an impression that the computer is actually “thinking”.

The patent was evolved as a part of a very good quality research work in knowledge engineering together with his Ph D scholar Poonam Tanwar and co-researcher Dr Kamlesh Dutta of NIT Himachal Pradesh. T Ashok Kumar, Joint Secretary of CEC, Dr Syed Kamaluddin, principal of CEC and Dr CV Brahmachary, principal of PG Studies, appreciated the effort and congratulated Dr Prasad for this feat.
