Eluru: The public health workers started to curb pig menace in Eluru from Wednesday morning. The people are suffering from pig menace in the city over a long period. Even they repeatedly requested the officials to curb the menace but to no avail. No action was initiated in this regard by the Municipal Corporation.

Following these complaints, Eluru MLA Badeti Kota Ramarao (Bujji) responded immediately and toured various areas in the city in the early hours. He toured Peerpet Station Road, Gandhi Nagar, Kothapeta, Chepala Thumu Center, Tangellamudi and other areas. He saw pigs wandering on the streets in various places of the city causing panic among the public. Immediately, the MLA directed the officials to form a special flying squad to control the pig menace, which led to spread of epidemics. With this, the public health workers plunged into action and started killing of pigs in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA said that despite repeated warnings, the pig owners did not take steps to keep the pigs away from residential localities. As a result, the Corporation officials plunged into action and forced to kill the pigs to save the people from epidemics. He assured that cows and buffaloes problem in the city would be addressed. Due to these cattle, motor cyclists and vehicle drivers suffering a lot and sometimes resulting in accidents. The MLA was followed by Corporation Cooption member SMR Pedababu, Deputy Mayor Gudiwada Ramachandra Kishore and other corporators.
