Srikakulam: New village movement was jointly launched by South Korean team and B R Ambedkar University (BRAU) of Srikakulam at Kutikuppalapeta in Srikakulam rural mandal on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion Korean team leader Kim Bum Il explained that the aim of the movement is to encourage people’s participation in the development process. He lauded Janmabhoomi concept and activities and said that it is based on South Korean model of ‘Saemaul Undong’.

BRAU vice chancellor, H Lajipathi Rai said that the prime object of the new village movement is to share people’s experiences in community development activities.

“We started similar concept in the form of student community engagement through various social projects under the ‘Classroom to Common Man’ initiative in the varsity,” he explained.

South Korean team members, Nam Dong Hyeun, Min Sung Suk, Kim Hong Joo, Ahn Kwang Joon, Jeong Seong Yong also explained importance of the new village movement in development process. Villagers, self help group (SHG) women and students of Government College for women also attended the programme.
