Farmers object to roads passing through residential areas in their villages
Guntur: The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) meeting with farmers held here on Wednesday witnessed uproarious scenes when farmers objected to certain points in the master plan which showed roads criss crossing residential habitations in villages.
Some farmers expressed their anguish over the rumours that jareebu land owners, who parted with their lands, would not be allotted any commercial and residential plots in the promised jareebu lands. Some of them took exception to rumours that their villages would be relocated.
Pandemonium descended on the venue when Mangalagiri mandal president Pachala Ratna Kumari, belonging to YSRCP, unleashed criticism against ministers P Narayana and Pulla Rao. Police had to intervene to restore order into the meeting. District Collector Kantilal Dande clarified that the aim of meeting was not meant to settle political scores.
A farmer from Mandadam, Ramesh, sought legal cover to both allotted lands and whole rehabilitation package in general. The ministers and the government responded that as of now the rehabilitation package was based on government assurance and there was no legal sanctity.
Sevral farmers raised the issue of special treatment given by the government to Jareebu lands and those farmers in the process of land re-allotments. Some farmers also demanded commercial space in high-end central commercial complexes in the core capital area and not merely in the local township commercial complexes.
Meanwhile, CRDA commissioner Nagulapalle Srikanth responding to concerns of farmers said it was only first meeting to place the master plan before farmers, and said farmers were free to raise their objections.
“In the next couple of days meetings would be held at the village level to discuss and take their approval and also to effect changes in accordance with the aspirations of the local people. No roads would pass through the middle of their villages if they opposed it,” he clarified and advised farmers not to believe in rumuors.
Earlier Srikanth explaining the main features of master plans revealed that the proposed core capital will have a 25 lakh population and it would be an amalgamation of well-planned 25 townships in the 29 villages capital region.
The capital will have two airports and also well organized road, rail, air and water ways connectivity with even high speed trains connecting Amaravati. He said that every township will have a one lakh population living mostly in sky scrapers.
There would be exclusive roads for Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) buses. Every township will have schools, commercial complexes, recreation centres and hassle-free arrangements to make townships livable and lovable.
The capital region will have metro rail, local trains, buses, trams and excellent arrangements for flood water management including the Kondaveeti vagu flood waters. All power cables would be underground.
