Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday blamed the State and the Central governments for neglecting the State in allocating funds for the drought relief. The APCC spokesman, Kolanukonda Sivaji, took strong exception to the Central government allocating Rs 433.7 crore for the State, while the State had asked for Rs 2,000 crore. He said that Central government had allocated Rs 5,083 crore for BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh and Maharastra States, where the number of drought hit was less and rainfall was more compared to Andhra Pradesh. The government had also allocated Rs 815 crore for Odisha.

Sivaji said that Andhra Pradesh government had first declared 196 mandals as drought hit and had revised it by adding 163 more mandals in November. The State had a total of 359 drought hit mandals for which the government had sought Rs 2,059 crore relief from the Centre, he said.

The APCC leader blamed both the Telugu Desam and the BJP leaders from the State for their failure to get the funds from the Centre. He wondered what the elected representatives of the two parties were doing without getting funds from the Centre. He regretted that the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, and the Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu were not showing interest in getting Central funds for the State. He requested the two leaders to concentrate on taking up State issues with the Centre and get more funds for the State.
