Visakhapatnam: District Committee of CPM condemned the statement made by Narasaraopet MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao against allocation of separate railway zone for Visakhapatnam, the long pending demand of Vizagites, at the pre-railway budget meeting which was held in Vijayawada on Thursday.

Party district secretary K Lokanadham told The Hans India on Friday that they took strong exception to MP’s remarks that there will be no use in giving a separate zone for Visakhapatnam as it was prone to cyclones. He demanded that the MP should withdraw his remarks as it hurts the sentiments of entire north Coastal Andhra people who were demanding a separate zone since long time.

He claimed that Vizag is the largest income earning division in the entire SE Railway and Sri Krishna Commission has suggested for a separate zone for Vizag. He asked the MP Rayapati to work for the development of all areas as a Parliamentarian and not to give provocative statements which ignite issues further.

Pointing out that the Central government, too, had promised a separate zone, which was not yet fulfilled, and alleged that the TDP government has completely failed in getting the zone. Even the security measures are also nominal at the Visakha railway station and when the RPF and the GRP officials recommend for 120 CCTV cameras for all the eight platforms long ago, there only 22 were installed, he charged.

“When the Central and State governments were always talking about Smart Visakha, why they have failed in diverting the important superfast trains to Vizag, which were directly passing through Duvvada”, he questioned. Demanding the Centre to announce a separate zone in the ensuing railway budget meeting, he threatened that the agitation would be intensified if the demand was not met.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Andhra Pradesh Vidhyarthi and Yuvajana JAC led by its Chairman Areti Mahesh lodged a complaint with the Three Town police here on Friday against the MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao for his remarks at the pre-budget meeting. Mahesh said that the MP should not have made such remarks about the separate zone for Vizag as it was the long pending demand.

“The statement hurt the feelings and sentiments of north coastal Andhra people and urged the police to take action against the MP as per the Act for his provocative statement”, he added. S Lovaraju, A Avinash, V Raja Goud, Pithani Prasad and others were also present.
