Chittoor: Conclusion of the third phase of the Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru programme much ahead of official schedule under the limits of the Chittoor Municipal Corporation has taken people by surprise. Corporation officials began Janmabhoomi programme on January 4 and concluded it on January 8.

District Collector Siddharth Jain was reportedly serious about it and asked the in-charge Municipal Commissioner to give an explanation as to why they have ended Janmabhoomi in violation of official orders. The State government had issued orders to conduct Janmabhoomi programme from January 2 to 11. However, corporation officials have organised Janmabhoomi in few divisions from the total of 50.

In-charge Municipal Commissioner Bhaskara Rao, who resides in Tirupati, has reportedly failed to initiate proper plans for organising the Janmabhoomi programme. There are allegations that officials themselves have conducted the Grama Sabhas as part of the Janmabhoomi without the involvement of the elected representatives. According to official sources, the last Grama Sabha was organised at Ganganapalli division under corporation limits.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Saturday, the TDP district official spokesperson V Surendra Kumar expressed anguish and dismay over the officials’ negligence in conducting the Janmabhoomi. He found fault with corporation officials for completing the Janmabhoomi in advance. The TDP leader alleged that several district officials are staying in Tirupati and attend their duties here hardly.

He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had introduced the Janmabhoomi programme with an intention of resolving public issues. He said people in large numbers have attended Grama Sabhas and submitted their petitions despite YSRCP leaders tried to disrupt them in several divisions.
