Narsapur: Prof K Rama Mohan Rao, former registrar of Andhra University has said promoting and creating excellence in education in turn promotes the making of the dynamic society. He was delivering the valedictory address the two-day national seminar on ‘Promoting Excellence in Higher Education – Issues & Challenges’ organised by Sri YN College, Narsapur on Saturday. He pointed out that one of the important challenges was the teachers’ mindset. They were disappointed with the education system, recruitment policy, governance, management in higher education institutions, he opined.

He pointed out that commercialisation of education was responsible for the degrading standards of education. He said that people and students were carried away by the fake promises of the corporate institutions, which ensure 100 percent placements and were ultimately deceived by them.

On the other hand, genuine institutions which want to give their best face a number of constraints, he observed. Concluding his lecture he said that good governance, connectivity between the management, faculty and students and receptivity for new ideas were the key factors in any good higher education institution.

Prof C Satyanarayana Rao, secretary of the college welcomed the guests. Andhra University Professor P Krishna Prasad, Prof GV Chalam of Nagarjuana University, Prof Ch A Rajendra Prasad of Dravidian University, Prof Satyanarayana of IIT, Kharagpur, Dr Y Gopala Krishna Murthy, YN College treasurer, College Committee members, teachers and students participated.
