Kadapa: Muslims here are not happy with the State government as it has sanctioned a mini Haj House. They are demanding the State government to sanction full-fledged Haj House as the Muslims in large number have settled in the district on par with the other communities. They are also demanding the government to provide free travel from the Haj House here to the international airport at Hyderabad or Tirupati airport.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu laid foundation stone for the mini Haj House in Kadapa on January 9 during his recent district visit. A mini Haj House was proposed here for the convenient of the Muslim population residing in the district, who wants to visit the Mecca. The government had allotted 12 acres of land on the outskirts of the city and sanctioned Rs 12 crore to start the construction work in the first phase.

But, Muslim leaders are not happy with the government’s decision to set up a mini Haj House in Kadapa and main Haj House in Vijayawada. “We want full-pledged Haj House on the lines of Haj House at Nampally in Hyderabad where all the departments belong to Muslims are located. It is difficult for the pilgrims to travel from Kadapa to Vijayawada to fly to Mecca. So, we are demanding the TDP government to establish an international airport here which would be the most convenient to the Mecca pilgrims,” said Kadapa MLA Amzad Basha.

However, some leaders from the community said that the Haj House would be used once in a month, that too, at the time of Haj pilgrimage. Leaders said that the Haj House would be lying idle for the remaining months. They are demanding the State government to sanction Urdu University to Kadapa so that it can provide hundreds of jobs to the Muslims.

The Congress state general secretary Sattar said that the Chief Minister had promised of setting up the Urdu University during previous polls. He said that the unemployed in Muslims would get jobs once the university is established. However, he stressed on the need for Haj House. He slammed the TDP government for establishing the Urdu University in Kurnool instead of Kadapa.

The other Muslim religious elders are asking the government to finalise the location of the Haj House after consulting all the leaders, elders and other prominent people of their community. They are of the view that the Haj House should be constructed in the heart of the city rather than outskirts.
