Govt releases ` 14.76 cr for Kapus’ welfare

Anantapur: The State government has released Rs 14.76 crore for the welfare of the Kapu community in the district, Collector Kona Sashidhar said here on Sunday. The amount will benefit 2,462 families belonging to Kapu, Telaga, Balija, Ontari sub-castes. Members of these families can submit applications for financial assistance at the nearest Mee-Seva centres.

The Collector was speaking after meeting State Kapu Development Corporation Director R Muralimohan, along with Joint Collector B Lakshmikantham.

Sashidhar stated that financial assistance from banks was being provided for taking up 38 activities, including agriculture, animal husbandry, small-scale industries, with Rs 2 lakh as the unit cost. The loans would carry 50 per cent subsidy. The beneficiaries should be aged between 21 and 45 years, holding Aadhaar card and white ration card.

The Collector stated that selection of the beneficiaries would take place in their respective mandal and municipal limits. They should also submit applications in the Mee-Seva centres for securing Kapu community caste certificate. He said the RDOs and tahsildars have been instructed to issue the certificates within 24 hours of receiving the applications.
