Yenimireddy Malakondareddy alias Malakondaiah, senior BJP leader from East Godavari district, has been elected party district president on Sunday. 

Kakinada: Yenimireddy Malakondareddy alias Malakondaiah, senior BJP leader from East Godavari district, has been elected party district president on Sunday.

In the keenly-contested election, he defeated his rival Yalla Dorababu by a margin of 11 votes. In total, 111 voters exercised their franchise.

According to sources, the district BJP unit was virtually divided into two groups during the election process. Outgoing district BJP president Vetukuri Suryanarayana Raja, senior party leaders Pydah Bhava Prasad, Duvvuri Subrahmanyam and Thota Venkata Sarvarayudu and BJP National Council member Somu Veerraju lent their support to Malakondaiah.

On the other hand, party senior leader and State party EC member Pydah Krishna Mohan, senior party leaders Bikkina Visveswara Rao, Neti Gopala Krishna, Karri Chittibabu and others have taken up a hectic campaign supporting Dorababu’s candidature. It is said that several voters kept away from election process venting their ire over groupism within the party.

The party State observers Poodi Tirupati Rao, R Raja, Narasinga Rao and Kapileswaraiah acted as election officers.

Party senior leader Duvvuri Subrahmanyam congratulated the newly-elected president and expressed hope that he would discharge his duties to the best of his ability without resorting to groupism in the party. Malakondaiah expressed his gratitude to party cadres for electing him for the second time.
