Vijayawada: AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi would visit Bandlapalli village of Anantapur district on February 2 on the occasion of NREGS scheme successfully completing 10 years, APCC President N Raghuveera Reddy has said.

Speaking to press persons, he recalled that the NREGS programme was launched in the village on February 2, 2006 by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in which Congress Sonia Gandhi had also participated.

He said that that the party would organise a public meeting in the village to commemorate the ten years of success. Using the opportunity, the Congress leader alleged that the TDP government was using the NREGS to benefit its party leaders. He said that the TDP had failed to provide employment opportunities to agricultural labourers for 150 days.

Continuing his tirade against TDP government, he said it had removed 7000 field workers, who supervise NREGS workers, and alleged that it was supporting contractors to illegally use the NREGS machinery.
