Vijayawada: A three-day workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights” was inaugurated by Ashok Ram Kumar, Advocate and IPR Attorney, AP High Court at Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College here on Wednesday. The programme is being organised for the benefit of faculty members from 11 TEQIP Institutions in the state. As many as 25 faculty members from Andhra University, SVU, JNTU Kakinada and Anantapur, GITAM University and GVP College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam attended the workshop. The programme was initiated by State Project Facilitation Unit, AP under World Bank sponsored TEQIP project organized by Engineering Staff College of India (TS)-The Institution of Engineers (India).

Dr A V Ratna Prasad, Principal, VR Siddhartha Engineering College presided over the Inaugural session. Ashok Ramkumar inaugurated the program as Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of Intellectual Property Rights in India.

Dr GB Reddy, Vijaya Kumar and Ashok Ramkumar are the resource persons for the workshop. Sessions on Patents, Copy Rights and Industrial Designs were oriented towards ‘make in india. Resource team Vijay Kumar Makyam and Ashok Ram Kumar IPR Attorneys at IP Markets, Hyderabad said, “India has large intellectual property emanating from universities and Research Institutes which is not properly protected and commercialised. They emphasised the need for proactive role of the universities and research institutes for protecting and converting the research into protectable Intellectual property.

Dr P V Subbaiah, TEQIP coordinator, V R S Engineering College, along with P Sai Kishore, Chief Coordinator, Corporate Relations, ESCI, Hyderabad coordinated the workshop.
