Chittoor: City MLA D K Satyaprabha said on Friday that the TDP government has been protecting the interests of Dalits by implementing various welfare schemes despite stiff resistance from opposition parties. She stated that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who hails from the district, has been showing special attention for upliftment of welfare schemes meant for Dalits.

Participating in the SC/ ST Vigilance Monitoring Committee meeting held here on Friday, the TDP MLA said that the government has given instructions to the police officials to register the cases under SC/ST Atrocities Act, if victims are Dalits, without bowing down to political pressure.

“Exgratia should be handed over to the Dalit victims promptly while ensuring justice to them,” she added. Satyaprabha made an appeal to SC Unions to exert pressure on the officials concerned to provide relief assistance to the victims immediately once police have registered the cases.

Presiding over the meeting, Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Kodandarami Reddy said that District Collector Siddharth Jain is very serious if there are any lapses in enforcing the Atrocities Act. He asked the police officials not to show negligent in registering the cases under SC/ST Atrocities Act.

The RDO expressed anguish that cases under Atrocities Act are still being reported in the district despite police officials taking stringent measures.

DSP Lakshmi Naidu explained the steps being taken to control the attacks on Dalits and the progress of the cases which were registered under Atrocities Act. Dalit Union leaders Munuswamy, Varadarajulu, Dhanalakshmi, Venkata Raman, Ravi, Mary and others were present.
