Vijayawada: Noted environmentalist Pandalaneni Srimannarayana on Saturday alleged that the State government was violating every rule in the name of building new capital, Amaravati.

Speaking to media persons here, Srimannarayana who had filed a case against the State government in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) said that the government was misleading people on the new capital and the rules formed to build the new city.

He alleged that the government was also misleading the courts and the NGT on the destruction of the fertile lands in the 29 villages of the capital region.

He said that the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) had shown straight express ways in the master plans. However, when people protested against the express ways, the CRDA officials were making contradictory statements on the other hand.

He took strong exception to the CRDA’s move to change the alignment of the existing flood bank and said that it was only to protect the illegal construction on the banks of the river in which the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was staying. He said that the Chief Minister instead of preventing encroachments on the banks of the river was trying to protect them.
