Vijayawada: Soon, devotees of Goddess Kanaka Durga might be able to catch a glimpse of the rare and precious jewels and ornaments donated over several decades. For the first time, Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, one of the largest temples in India and second largest temple in Andhra Pradesh is planning to put the precious ornaments of Goddess Kanaka Durga on display at the newly constructed Mallikarjuna Maha Mandapam atop Indrakeeladri.

It is already known that Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) one of the largest pilgrim centres in India possesses a museum which houses rare and antique sculptures, weapons, instruments and manuscripts highlighting the prominence of Lord Venkateswara. In fact, the temple authorities are understood to have decided to throw open the gallery of the ornaments of the goddess in view of upcoming 12-day Krishna Pushkaralu in August.

As scores of pilgrims throng the hill shrine every year it would provide an opportunity for the devotees if the jewellery is put on display, temple head priest Vishnubhotla Siva Prasad Sharma said. Speaking to The Hans India on Sunday, Temple Executive Officer Ch Narasing Rao said that as of now there was no clarity to establish the museum at any particular point. A team of temple authorities have recently taken out a survey to identify the proper location for the purpose according to the temple master plan going to be executed in next few months, he said.

Giving a detailed structure of the ancient jewellery of Goddess Kanaka Durga, he said that as of now Goddess Kanaka Durga has six golden crowns in which two of them were being used for the goddess daily and rest of them will be crowned during the 10-day Dasara festive season. The other ornaments of the goddess are Makara Thoranam, Nanthadu, Mangala Sutralu, Kantabharanam, Nallapoosala Golusu, Bulakhi, golden sheath on palms of the goddess, Swarna Kavacham and 108 Suvarana Pushpalu offered to the Goddess on every Thursday would be put on display at the museum, he said.
