Ongole: The 47th Formation Day of Prakasam district was celebrated with fanfare at the Collectorate here on Tuesday. Ministers Siddha Raghava Rao and Ganta Srinivasa Rao expressed hope that the district will see tremendous development in future, as the State government is keen on developing the backward district.

The Ministers, MLAs and MLCs kicked off the Formation Day celebrations at an open auditorium on the Collectorate premises by garlanding the statue of Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu.

Transport, Roads and Buildings Minister Siddha Raghava Rao said that the State government will no longer encourage development concentrated at one place. He promised development across the State and educational institutions in all the districts in future and promised several institutions and projects to Prakasam district. The government has already allotted 1,1000 acres of land for industrial corridor at Donakonda to APIIC for setting up of industries.

The NIMZ at Kanigiri is also in the realisation stage. The government has sanctioned about Rs 375 crore for the construction of roads in the district and is planning to take up more development activities in future.”

Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao promised that he will extend help to make Prakasam number one district in the State. He said, “Whenever someone asks me about my birth place, I proudly say that I am a native of Prakasam district. Earlier governments has neglected our district, even though it has abundant natural resources. But this government helps for the district development by providing various educational as well as industrial opportunities. The IIIT would be set up in the district by this year and admissions for it will start in next academic year.”

Earlier, the speakers demanded the State government to come forward to announce the district as backward district. MLC Magunta Srinivasula Reddy said, “It is the failure of previous governments to keep the district away from development. The ministers should take initiative to bring university to the district, apart from the said IIIT, and provide higher education opportunities to the local students. We should also demand the Central government to announce the district as backward district.”

Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao and Kondapi MLA Dola Bala Veranjaneya Swamy also asked the Ministers to complete the Veligonda project as soon as possible to help the western Prakasam region to have water for drinking and agriculture needs.
