DWMA project director D Venkataramana Reddy says under the scheme, the farm workers will be provided with 100 days work every year in rural areas

Eluru: District Water Management Agency (DWMA) project director D Venkataramana Reddy said that under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), the DWMA had provided 80 workdays to 3.65 lakh workers during the 2015-16 financial year.

He participated as a chief guest in the Foundation Day celebrations of NREGS, at TTDC building in Satrampadu on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said NREGS had achieved its goal by reaching out to the public in the district. He said the Centre had inaugurated the NREGS, a decade ago all over the country and spent Rs 3.15 lakh crore in the development of rural areas by generating employment to the daily workers.

He said under the scheme, the farm workers would be provided with 100 days work every year in rural areas. He further stated that from 2008, the scheme was implemented as a movement in West Godavari district. The DWMA project director handed over cheques to the kin of two DWMA employees, who died while discharging their duties.

The DWMA administrative officer Puli Kumaraswamy Raja, Assitant Project Directors Sayanarayanababu, Nagaraj, Kanakadurga and Venkata Lakshmi participated in the meeting.
