Vizianagaram: Thousands of unskilled workers and farm labourers are migrating to Krishna, East and West Godavari districts in search of livelihood. Unskilled or semi-skilled workers have deprived of work as there are no industries in North Andhra districts, especially Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. As a result the workers, especially agriculture labourers were rendered jobless after kharif season. Therefore, they have to wait for agriculture works till June. Hence, the poor labourers are migrating to Krishna, Guntur, East and West Godavari districts as they get work there throughout the year.

A male worker can get Rs 400 per day and a female worker Rs 300 if they work in agriculture fields, poultry farms and aqua culture farms. A couple can earn Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 per year by working in those districts.

It may be noted that all the workers, who migrated to those districts, come to their native places during Sankranti and leave their homes soon after. Mason will get incentives from the land lords, owners of poultries and aqua farms for bringing a team of workers. Each mason would be given Rs 1,000 per bringing workers as an incentive.

“We can see migrating workers at all railway stations with baggage. Especially, they are travelling by Vijayawada-Rayagada passenger, which will be stopped at their work areas like Akiveedu, Tadepalligudem, Anaparthi and Bheemadole.

K Ramakrishna of Kandivalasa village in Komarada mandal said: “I have been living in Guntur for the past four years. I worked hard and repaid the loan taken during my daughter’s marriage and now I have saved Rs 1 Lakh for my son’s education. I have purchased two cows and handed over them to my father at my village. Though it is painful to stay away from native place and near and dear ones, it’s compulsion for me to meet my family expenditure and future needs.”

K Ramanamma of Kurupam mandal said: “I go to Krishna district to work in flower gardens and mango orchards and earning money. Even my children, husband are also working, along with me. The owners provided a room and rice for cooking.”
