Kandukur: Police on Wednesday evening arrested a man for allegedly trying to kidnap his estranged wife at Dubagunta near Kandukur. According to Ponnalur Sub-Inspector Prabhakar, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening, while two women employees of Tobacco Board, Y Prabhavathi, assistant manager, and Najma were going home after their office.

The alleged kidnappers stopped their car and asked the unsuspecting victims for a lift till the nearby petrol station. Suddenly, three other men entered into the scene and dragged the two women into their vehicle and sped to Kanigiri.

A farmer, who was working nearby, noticed the incident and immediately informed the matter to Ponnalur police. On receipt of information, SI Prabhakar rushed to the highway. The SI directed the farmers at K Agraharam to block the road with tractors.

As the kidnappers reached K Agraharam, they noticed the road blockade and drove the vehicle towards Z Mekapadu. The alert farmers chased them down and stopped their vehicle.

Meanwhile, the police too reached the spot. The police found out that Prabhavathi’s husband Y Seshagiri Rao is one among the 10-member kidnapper gang. The police took Seshagiri Rao into custody, while others fled the spot.

It is said that the couple has been going through a rough patch for the last few years and living separately. As the property is in the name of Prabhavathi, her husband Seshagiri Rao wanted his wife to register the property to his name. His friends have joined hands with him to execute the kidnap plan, which was filed by police with the help of farmers.
