Chittoor: Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abhishek Mohanty (Administration) declared that police will initiate stringent action against the traffic rule violators in the city. He sought the support of people’s representatives and public for effective implementation of traffic rules.

Following the instructions of District SP G Srinivas, a meeting with people’s representatives, officials and drivers was organised here on Friday to evolve a strategy for tackling the traffic menace in the city.

Addressing the meeting, the ASP said police have organised several awareness camps about traffic rules in the past. He stated that police officials are making sincere efforts to evolve a consensus for implementation of traffic rules by giving priority to people safety.

He asked corporation officials to clear encroachments and widen roads. “We want to impose fine on the violators of traffic regulations only to make them wear helmets but not to harass people,” he said adding that helmet rule will be enforced with immediate effect.

Deputy Mayor R Subramanyam said corporation officials will take immediate steps to widen roads. He suggested traffic police to enforce one-way traffic system in congested roads. DSP (Traffic) Srikanth explained the measures being taken to enforce one-way traffic rules in several streets.
