Guntur: YSRCP district president Marri Rajasekhar has flayed Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for failing to keep his promises he made to Kapus and becoming intolerant and restive when questioned on the issue. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Rajasekhar said that Naidu had promised a Rs 5,000 crore assistance to Kapu welfare in a span of five years.

Even after two years of his rule, he barely gave Rs 100 crore. He also questioned the rationale behind suppressing democratic protests by the Kapu activists and also the BC Sangham. He denounced the police for forcibly foiling the relay hunger strike by Kapu activists at the Collectorate.

The YSRCP leader, L Appireddy, took exception to police denying permission for peaceful protests and lifting of the tents of the protestors. Meanwhile, at a separate press conference, YSRCP spokesman Ambati Rambabu denounced the Chandrababu Naidu government for suppressing democratic protests and peaceful agitations and creating a reign of terror by foiling cases and arresting activists participating in peaceful agitation in solidarity with Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham.

The Kapu leaders were only asking the Chief Minister to deliver on his promise and the CM was using the police to thwart a genuine movement. In a separate statement, Kapu leader Manohar Naidu and others condemned the police action against relay hunger strike agitators and arrest of all the participants at the relay fast camp. He said that the police action was unwarranted as the agitators had in no way disturbed public peace and order.
