Atmakuru (Kurnool): Forest section officer (FSO) Nagu Nayak of Birluti Forest Range here has been placed under suspension on Saturday in connection with finding meat of wild boar in his house. In the seven wild boars’ poaching case, criminal cases were filed against six others since meat was recovered from their houses too.
Authorities probing the case seized meat from the FSO’s house and that of others, including the FSO’s father Janavat Sarku Nayak. A probe into the poaching of seven wild boars was ordered at the instructions of the divisional forest officer and flying squad DFO and the meat was found in the houses of six persons and the house of the FSO.
The Forest officials who filed criminal cases against six persons, has merely suspended the FSO. A section of the forest department alleges that Nagu Nayak has been merely placed under suspension fearing threat to his job, if he was arrested and remanded.
Citing the example of registering a case against a farmer in leopard’s death case, though not connected, another section of staff is seeking to know why the suspended official was not booked in any case.
The forest division staff on Saturday complained to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) that the incident had tarnished the division’s image and also brought to the PCCF’s notice irregularities of a senior FSO, who is accused of misleading the divisional forest officer besides being dishonest in discharging duty. In fact, the senior FSO is serving an extended term with increase in superannuation age.
