Vijayawada: The Congress on Monday blamed the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, for detaining the Congress leaders in Rajahmundry.

Speaking to media persons, the AP Youth Congress president Devineni Avinash said that the APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy and the former Union minister K Chiranjeevi were detained by the police at Rajahmundry. He said that the two leaders have secured clearance from the Human Rights Commission to visit the fasting Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham and wondered how the government can detain the leaders.

He blamed the government for allowing the Telugu Desam leader K Kalavenkata Rao to visit the Kapu leader at Kirlampudi and prevent the Congress president from meeting the leader despite having the permission from the HRC.
He said that the Telugu Desam government was adopting dual policy on same issues favoring the ruling party leaders and suppressing the Opposition parties.

He asked the Chief Minister to fulfill the Telugu Desam’s election promise of giving BC status and reservations for the Kapus without disturbing the interests of the BCs. He said that the BCs in the State were already fearing about the government according BC status for the Kapus which would eat into their opportunities. He sought to advise the government to solve the issue without harming the interests of the BCs and the Kapus as well.

The Krishna district Congress president, K Butchi Babu, alleged that the Chief Minister was playing caste politics in the State. He said that the government had failed to handle the issue raised by the Kapu leader, Mudragada Padmanabham, which had led to violence and social unrest. He said that the Kapus were asking for BC status and reservations as promised by Chandrababu Naidu, while the BCs were worried about losing their quota.

This conflict had caused social unrest in the State for which the Chief Minister is responsible, he added. The Congress leaders appealed to government to address the Kapu reservation issue acceptable to all sections, including the BCs and ensure that peace prevailed in the State.
