Narsapuram: Local MLA Bandaru Madhava Naidu said highest priority would be given to drinking water woes in his Assembly constituency and said the officials have chalked out a comprehensive plan to overcome the water scarcity during the ensuing summer.

He told reporters at his office here on Monday that the government has issued a GO to take up filter beds works of various protected water supply (PWS) schemes at a cost of Rs 87 lakh in 17 villages. He said the previous government has neglected the PWS in the constituency and added that during his tour in the constituency, the people brought to his notice about polluted drinking water.

The MLA said that he immediately brought it to the notice of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Panchayat Raj Minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu. They sanctioned Rs 1.31 crore under two schemes in the first phase. In the second phase, they sanctioned Rs 87 lakh to take up repairs to 17 filter beds.

He said the tender process for first phase funds has been completed and added that soon works will commence in the constituency. He said besides this, he requested the Chief Minister to sanction funds for Narsapuram exclusively to meet the drinking water needs. He said proposals have been sent to government to construct a pipeline from Vijjeswaram to Narsapuram.

AMC Chairman Rayudu Sriramulu, ZPTC member Gubbala Nagaraju and TDP leader Tangella Nageswara Rao were also present in the press conference.
