The Women Commission Chairperson was in the city on Thursday to participate in the Awareness and Sensitisation Meeting on ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, Redressal) Act 2013 jointly organised by the Vasavya Mahila Mandali and Department of Women and Child Welfare.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajakumari called upon the parents to change their approach towards bringing up boy child and girl child. Parents should come forward in encouraging girl child to pursue higher
education on par with the boys, she said.

Rajakumari also emphasised the need to educate women on the laws available for them to save themselves from domestic and other forms of violence. Counselling sessions will be conducted for women in rural areas to get immediate justice in harassment cases. Measures will be taken by the commission in establishing an investigative committee at all the departments in government offices to solve the cases of sexual harassment of women at workplace, she said.

Focus will be also laid on creating awareness on the provisions of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013 to protect the interests of all women employees and to provide a safe working environment to women employees, she said. Commission would also take out a campaign by putting up banners and flexes across the State creating awareness on laws relating to sexual harassment of women, she added.

Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM) president Chennupati Vidya, Technical Support manager Dr B Keerthi, ICDS Krishna project director K Krishna Kumari, Department of Women and Child Welfare regional joint director R Suaj and other officials were also present.
