Addressing a review meeting on water supply, CC roads, MGNREGS, Reddy stated that Rs 280 crore was being spent throughout the State for reviving the CPWS schemes, besides repairs of pipelines and bore wells. He stated that the RWS engineers should take the responsibility of ensuring that no village faced water shortage and that they should initiate steps whenever there was a problem.

Collector Ch Vijaymohan informed the meeting that there would be no water problem till February 15. A nodal officer has been appointed for each mandal, who would tour the mandals next week to take steps for meeting any water shortage.

Vijaymohan stated that water was being supplied to 595 villages through 56 CPWS schemes. Water from the Tungabhadra dam would be released by the end of next month. As many as 26 schemes could be filled.About 1.5 tmcft has been stored in the Sunkesula reservoir and 1.2 in Alaganur reservoir for drinking purposes.

The Collector said proposals costing Rs 14 crore to repair pipelines and borewells besides laying additional pipelines have been submitted to the government. Water was being supplies in five villages through tankers. Similar supply would have to be taken up in 30 villages during summer.

Intervening Zilla Parishad Chairman Mallela Rajasekhar pointed out that pipelines of CPWS schemes laid 30 years back required repairs. Proposals to build ORSS tanks were under government’s consideration. The filter beds and additional pipelines required to be replaced.

Vijaymohan directed the PR engineers to lay six km roads a day during the next 50 days. So far 124 km of the 345 km CC roads have been completed. Jawahar Reddy asked them to first take up underground drainage before launching CC roads in crowded areas. He suggested laying of cement tiles in place of CC roads.

Reddy asked engineers to complete 50,000 individual lavatories in the next five months. About 2.60 lakh such lavatories are to be taken up in the district.
