Vijayawada: An extended meeting of the Muslim intellectuals here on Thursday urged the State government to increase their reservations from the present 4 per cent to 8 per cent. The meeting also appealed to the government to allocate Rs 1,000 crore for the Muslims welfare.

The meeting, attended by leaders of various professions, expressed concern over the government not giving legal status to their 4 per cent reservations. They wanted the government to ensure that their reservations are legalised in the form of an Act and also wanted the government to increase the reservations from 4 per cent to 8 per cent keeping in view their population.

The meeting urged the government to extend reservations for them in education, employment, promotions, politics and implementation of all welfare programmes. While asking the government to implement the recommendations of the Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission, the speakers wanted the government to provide free education for Muslims from LKG to PG.
