Nandyal: A woman, Kummari Eeramma, of Gani village in Gadivemula mandal has been staging hunger strike for the last 80 days at local Revenue Divisional Office demanding her land of 4.92 cents in survey number 53 be returned to her. Officials have not bothered to show any interest in reacting to her fast.

On Thursday, about 100 members of Kurnool District Shalivahana Sangham expressed support to her by joining the fast. They raised slogans demanding justice be done to Eeramma. Later, they took out a rally and submitted a representation to officials, who said the issue has been taken to the notice of higher-ups.

Sangham leader Balaram stated that the land being cultivated by Eeramma had been illegally allotted by officials to an armyman, Ramana Reddy, of Gudivemula mandal, showing it as assigned land. He questioned officials as to how they could allot the land to Reddy while he was still in service.

Balaram said the issue was recently taken to the notice of the Assembly BC Committee, which directed the Joint Collector to render justice to the woman. He called upon officials to at least now do the needful to her family; otherwise the sangham would intensify the agitation.
