Tirupati: CPI national committee member K Narayana warned that his party would resort to direction action if the Central government and the government of AP and Telangana fail to take concrete measures to protect the students studying or going to study in America from being harassed by the authorities including immigration officials there.

Speaking to media, along with party State secretary Ramakrishna here on Saturday, the Communist leader lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also AP and Telangana CMs Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandraekhar Rao respectively for remaining unmoved on the plight of the 1.5 lakh students from the country particularly from the two-Telugu speaking States in America.

''They were persecuted and treated like prisoners at California airport by the immigration authorities but our leaders remained silent’’ he said citing the handcuffing of the students at the airport by the immigration authorities and added that his party will resort to direction action from March 1 if these governments did not respond.

He also condemned the arrest of JNU student leader on sedition charges and said belonging to AISF, he in fact tried to prevent the students from raising slogans against India and demanded the withdrawal of the cases registered against JNU student’s leaders. Ramakrishna said that his party along with CPM will take up a bus yatra from February 20 to March 5 in Rayalaseema region covering the four districts in the region to exert pressure on the government to concede the 17-points put forth by the two Left parties for the development of the region. The demands include an annual package of Rs 2,000 crore, completion of all the irrigation projects on war-footing basis etc.
